• Theater Groups Present Family Fun

Published: Thursday, May 21st, 2009 Theater Groups Present Family Fun Bandon has much to offer in live theater, concerts and dance, with most of the productions held at the 250-seat Sprague Community Theater in City Park. Several groups make it all possible.

Bandon Playhouse
Bandon Playhouse, which has been offering community theater since the 1970s, will offer two productions for the summer season, as well as a Christmas show.
The first is "Witness for the Prosecution," to be performed June 19, 20, 21, 26, 27 and 28. "Witness for the Prosecution" is based on a short story by Agatha Christie .
The Playhouse will offer "Bye Bye Birdie," Aug. 14, 15,16, 21, 22, 23, 28, 29 and 30.
Originally titled, "Let's Go Steady," the satire on American society is set in 1958.
The Playhouse will offer "Christmas Belles" Dec. 4, 5, 6, 11, 12 and 13. Join us for this hilarious brand-new sequel to "Dearly Beloved!"
Bandon Playhouse also offers a Readers Theater once a month. Watch the Coffee Break and Western World for upcoming Readers Theater events.

Bandon Showcase
Bandon Showcase has built a following of people from throughout Coos County and beyond who are interested in professional, upscale quality entertainment.
Bandon Showcase's 2009-10 season includes:
¥ The Brigham Young University Chamber Orchestra at 7:30 p.m., Saturday, May 23 (final offering of the 2008-09 season).
¥ The Glenn Miller Orchestra at 7:30 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 16 (2009-10 Season Opening Gala).
¥ Bella Serella, an award-winning soprano ensemble that combines classical and contemporary styles in melodic and powerful duets, scheduled for 7:30 p.m., Friday, Nov. 20.
¥ Boyz Nite Out, January 2010, a vocals-only five-member men's ensemble specializing in original cover, pop and golden oldies.
¥ Italian Saxophone Quartet, scheduled for May 2010.

New Artists Productions
Founded by Bandon residents and philanthropists Dan and Anita Almich, New Artists Productions offers theater opportunities for children from elementary through high school.

Shows this season include:
¥ "Broadway Melodies," a public vocal recital for the seven students who attend the Southwestern Oregon Community College Vocal Class. Ida Jo Gates, who teaches the class, will accompany the vocalists at the Sprague Theater at 7 p.m., Wednesday, June 10.

¥ In July, a special dessert and performance fundraiser will be held, consisting of a murder-mystery in a theater-in-the-round setting. This production will be held at the Harbortown Events Center in Old Town. The fundraiser is to help pay for a special New Artists field trip in August to see professional theater in Eugene.

¥ Also in July, the annual summer theater camp for students in fourth through 12th grades will be held. The campers will learn about the Tin Pan Alley days of Broadway and some special performers. They will read fun scripts and act out scenes from famous movies and plays.

¥ The fall production, "Arsenic and Old Lace," is set for Oct. 16, 17, 18, 23, 24 and 25, and is a murder-mystery-comedy that will be held at the Sprague Theater.

¥ A variety show in February, 2010 and "Annie Junior" in April, 2010.
