Fourth of JulyThe Bandon Lions Club's community Fourth of July celebration begins with a parade and flyover at 10 a.m. on Saturday, July 4.
The Lions' fourth-annual Family Fun Day in City Park will take place from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Hamburger and Polish dog meals will be served. Live music and activities for the children also are planned.
Bandon's annual fireworks display will take place near the Coquille River at approximately 10 p.m. The fireworks are sponsored by the Bandon Chamber of Commerce. Donations can be made at the Visitor Center. For more information on the Lions Fourth of July events, call John Hubbard, 347-3573.
The Fourth of July weekend will include the Coos Kennel Club's all-breed dog show on Saturday and Sunday at Bandon High School, and an all-car show and shine on Saturday at the Bandon Shopping Center.
Cranberry Festival
One of southwestern Oregon's best-known events is the annual Bandon Cranberry Festival, which celebrates the community's No. 1 agricultural crop. This year, the 63rd annual festival will be held Sept. 11-13. Activities include the Blessing of the Harvest, crafts, food, music, a street fair in Old Town, Queen's Coronation, Grand Parade, Lions Barbecue, Bandon Dunes Golf Resort Golf Challenge, and the Cranberry Bowl football game.
Other activities are a fishing contest, quilting demonstrations, cranberry farm tours, myrtlewood turning demonstrations, and a flower show and plant sale.
Join the Bandon community in celebrating the harvest in the Cranberry Capital of the West Coast. A complete brochure of Cranberry Festival events will be available at the Visitor Center in Old Town, and can be obtained by phoning (541) 347-9616.
Celebration of Lights
Bandon was one of the first Oregon Coast communities to wrap itself in a blanket of glittering lights at Christmastime. The warmth of Christmas glistens all over town when Bandon celebrates its annual Celebration of Lights. People come from near and far to enjoy the lights and the friendly atmosphere in local shops.
The 27th annual Festival of Lights, sponsored by the Bandon Chamber of Commerce, will kick off in early December with the lighting of the community Christmas tree, and most of the decorations will remain up through New Year's Day.
There are plenty of activities for children and adults alike, including craft classes, cookie decorating at the local bakery, Santa Claus visiting both in Old Town and at the Bandon Shopping Center, Christmas stories with Mrs. Claus, a Holiday Lantern Parade that winds through Old Town, demonstrations, wine tasting and much more. Stores stay open late to accommodate holiday shoppers and add to the seasonal merriment.
The boat basin and lighthouse glow with decorations, too. Bandon's volunteer fire department strings hundreds of lights to outline the lighthouse, making it glow across the river at night.
