• Annual Crab Derby

More than 100 crabs, each affixed with a brass tag, will be placed in Bandon's bay for the second annual Bandon Crab Derby, which begins July 1 and runs through Aug. 31.Those who catch one of the "special" crabs any time during the derby and bring the crab to Tony's Crab Shack on the Port of Bandon boardwalk for verification are eligible for cash prizes ranging from $100 to $1,000. The crab derby was started last year by Dave and Eileen Schradieck, owners of Bandon Beach Vacation Rentals LLC, to draw visitors to the area for a fun event.
A Web site has been created that gives more detailed information about the derby, as well as links to a tide chart, marine and weather forecasts at www.BandonCrabDerby.com. More information also can be obtained at Tony's Crab Shack on the boardwalk.

Hughes House
The house stands on a terrace on the north side of Cape Blanco. The front parlor was the most significant room of a Victorian home, and the Hughes House parlor reflects the wealthy status of the Hughes family. The house also contains a men's parlor, a spacious kitchen and a unique chapel that has the original altar and a hand-painted ceiling.
