Located off U.S. Highway 101 north of Bullards Bridge, where the Pacific Ocean meets the Coquille River, Bullards Beach State Park provides a stunning destination to set up camp, stroll along the beach, cast out a fishing line, set out a picnic or simply hike along beautiful trails and enjoy being outside. One of the most popular state parks on the Oregon Coast, Bullards is home to the historic Coquille River Lighthouse, built in 1896. Although no longer in operation, the lighthouse is a favorite destination for many, especially photographers.
Miles of hiking and equestrian trails are located in the park, as is a pioneer cemetery that is just a short walk from the campgrounds. Live entertainment is offered five nights a week in the park's amphitheater from June through September.
Fishing along the park's open beach also is a popular activity, along with crabbing, boating and clamming.
The campground, open year-around, contains 82 campsites with electric hook-ups and 103 sites with full hook-ups. Six sites and three yurts are ADA-accessible. The A-loop includes 30 amp service, while the B- and C-loops come with 50 amp service.
Rates for the summer are $20 a night, plus $5 for an extra vehicle. Summer rates for the yurts are $27 with an additional $5 for extra vehicle.
Yurts are for those who wish a bit more privacy and desire the creature comforts. They are made of waterproof canvas that is insulated, has plywood floors, electricity, indoor lighting and a lockable door. Bullards Beach has 13 yurts and a meeting-hall yurt, and only is one of a dozen state parks that provide yurts. Yurts can be reserved online.
An equestrian camp near the beach offers small corrals that can house up to two horses. Horse camp rates are $16 per night between May 1 and October 31, and $13 during the off-season. Riding is allowed on the beach and on designated trails within the park.
The park also offers a hiker and bicyclist camp in its C-loop for a reduced rate of $4 a night per person. Picnic shelters, fire-pits, firewood, showers and an RV dump station are just some of the other services offered.
Reservations can be made up to nine months in advance and but no less than two days in advance ($6 non-refundable reservation fee is required the first night) by calling Reservations Northwest toll-free at (800) 452-5687 or visiting the Web site at www.oregonstateparks.org. Those interested can call the park booth at 347-3501 (Memorial Day through Labor Day) or the office at 347-2209 for further information.
